ST. LOUIS LOCAL AREA
With mega-stores such as Best Buy,Target and many others removing the CD aisles from their stores, and since the well-known,nationwide chain record stores simply a mere memory now, music fans but only two places to go to purchase physical musical formats.(CD,Vinyl, etc) One being the Internet. And, yes, it is true that you can find about 98% of the music you are looking for on the Net,the thrill of going to the record store...seeing all the posters and album ads....physically browsing about ,and, in some cases, looking intently for that one special release,is all but gone when shopping on the Web. The second choice for music buyers is the independently-owned and operated record store.
Thankfully, there are music fanatics in this world who are also entrepreneurs. Those are the ones who normally built their business from nothing.Yet today, with Vinyl being the best selling musical format for about the last four to five years, and newer bands and artists releasing their new material on cassette,(Black Lips, Ghost),our local independent music store is more than just a retail outlet.....is is,for many, a sanctuary. A Holy place where one can physically browse through the selection for hours, if they choose. In their hand, they can hold and touch the music in it's tangible form...it even has a new name...."Physical Media".
